Common Questions & Swaps

  • Can I omit the mint tea? Not really; it is one of the main ingredients of this recipe so I would advise against that.
  • What if I don’t have any mint extract? You can always stick to the mint tea on its own, but I have to warn you that the mint flavour will not be as strong. If you are a true mint-chip fan, get yourself some mint extract, it is life changing.

  • Can I use almond, coconut or any other plant based milk for this recipe? Sure, my recommendations would be any nut milk or oat milk. I would advise against full fat coconut milk as it is a little too rich and might be overpowering in this particular recipe.

  • Can I sweeten this recipe with maple syrup? Yes. I am not sure how much you would need though, but start with 1 teaspoon of maple syrup, taste and add more if desired.

There are some people who have an unending love for mint and chocolate put together. They are the people who, when they see a mint chip gelato at an ice cream shop, all the other options immediately vanish from their mind. My boyfriend is one of those people.

I personally never really understood the hype (sorry!), but when I met Sam, I realized how real the love for mint chocolate can be in one’s life. The love of this flavour combination is so real that after I discovered a recipe for a naturally sweetened mint chip smoothie and made it ONCE, following that event, every time Sam hears the blender, he thinks I am making that smoothie. Every. Single. Time. I have to admit that it is very cute to see the hope and excitement in his eyes!

On my end, the flavour combinations that make my heart sing are peanut butter and jam or peanut butter and chocolate, chocolate and coffee, maple and nuts, coconut and rum and probably 10 other that simply do not come to mind right now.

Anyways, all that to say that mint and chocolate was never really the way to my heart. BUT, because I know so SO many people love that combination, I thought I would treat you to a delicious velvety mint hot chocolate.

I know the holidays are right around the corner and many of you love to get into the Christmas spirit by enjoying foods that remind you of the holidays. That is why I created this recipe… You know, as a gift.

This hot chocolate is:
Rich
Creamy
Super chocolatey
Naturally sweetened
Incredibly easy to make.

Well that is it guys. For all the mint chocolate lovers out there, this one is for you! I hope you make this recipe and enjoy it the way Sam and I did (him probably 10x more than me because he is a hard core fan of this flavour combination).
